Mutually Beneficial Clinical Sites
All COE students have multiple high quality, authentic field-based experiences throughout their programs of study. Collaborating partners select, nurture, and support clinical practice sites that promote a culture of professional growth, assessment, and research for their mutual benefit.
1/26/6 - Three MCS Middle Schools selected as Pilot Clinical Practice Sites
Colonial Middle School, Ridgeway Middle School, and White Station Middle School will be pilot sites for clinically-based practice beginning in Fall 2006. With Teacher Quality Enhancement (TQE) funding provided by the Department of Education the College of Education, in partnership with Memphis City Schools and the College of Arts and Sciences, is embarking on a reinvention of the way in which we prepare teachers. This pilot will focus on key outcomes and performance assessments, with outstanding middle school teachers playing key roles at these three clinical sites.
1/19/6 - Campus School Models Effective Practice for Prospective Teachers
Ensuring the quality and consistency of prospective teachers' initial clinical experiences is central to the College's commitment to effective practice. Campus school administration and teachers are taking a leadership role in developing and modeling structured observations and student/teacher interactions that will provide a rich foundation for later fieldwork. The initial pilot in Fall 2005 involved students in reading courses; in Spring 2006 the campus school is working with students in Level I courses. The expected outcome is a structured model that will be expanded to additional school sites.
